Prison officer robbed at knife-point

A Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) officer was robbed at knife-point by two individuals on a motorbike who stole his motorbike and hit him before making their escape.

The incident took place at around 7:10 am near Taauddin School this Sunday.

MCS announced that there had been a recent uptick in violence against prison officers, with one officer hit on a head with a brick from the pavement just last week.

The incident this Sunday is under investigation by the police.

MCS condemned the threats and violence against their prison officers and staff, declaring that they would continue to do their legally obligated duties with integrity even in the face of such violence.
