MP Asma, Sujau apologizes to Maumoon

Central Mafannu MP Asma Rasheed and Baarah MP Ibrahim Sujau have apologized to the former Maldivian President and Leader of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) for walking out on a PPM Council meeting last July.

A member of PPM Council who plead anonymity confirmed to “Sun” this Sunday that Asma and Sujau had apologized to Maumoon via the Viber group of PPM Council members.

“I apologize to President Maumoon for any violation of PPM Constitution we may have partaken in,” read the message sent by both Asma and Sujau.

The apology comes after Maumoon demanded one from all member of the PPM Council who walked out on the meeting in July 19 and besmirched the value of PPM in their interviews to local media.

He sent a Viber message to the group threatening that a next PPM Council meeting would be held only is the members who “rebelled” against him apologized.

“I announce that a council meeting cannot be held until those who made defamatory comments against the party’s leader to the press and those who took the leader of the party to court apologize for their actions and vow to respect the Constitution of the party,” said Maumoon.

The demand comes after the government asked that the individuals who will be representing each political party in the all-party talks be chosen with the vote of the party’s councils.

PPM had informed President’s Office that Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon and Thulusdhoo MP Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim (Wadde) will be representing the party in the talks.

However, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. Mohamed Shainee – who will be heading the talks on behalf of government said that individuals who aren’t endorsed by the party council will not be accepted as representatives by the government.
