Mega Maldives to start 2 flights per week between Maldives, Sri Lanka

Private Maldivian airline, Mega Maldives had announced that it would start flights between Maldives and Sri Lankan capital Colombo before the end of this year.

Spokesperson for Mega Maldives, Javed Faizal informed “Sun” that the airline would begin operations between Maldives and Colombo by November or December this year.

Javed said that the airline was negotiating a contract with a Sri Lankan travel agent and Sri Lankan Airlines – which will be handing ground operations on behalf of Mega Maldives in Colombo.

The two Mega Maldives flights between Maldives and Colombo is scheduled for the weekend, every week.

Javed said that the airline was working on direct flights to two Indian cities – New Delhi and Mumbai.

Direct flights between Maldives and New Delhi will be launched within November, and will be soon followed by flights to Mumbai.

Mega Maldives is also working on establishing one of its offices in New Delhi.

The airline – which transports the largest number of Chinese tourists to and from Maldives – is riddled with financial trouble over the fall in Chinese market and mounting repair and maintenance work on its aircrafts.

Mega Maldives has cut down its fleet and laid off its staff in an attempt to keep the company afloat.
