Jihad: Many benefits received by working with UNDP, ready to work again

Vice President Abdulla Jihad has said that the strong relationship built between the United National Development Program (UNDP) has brought a number of benefits to the Maldives and it’s people and for further good of the country, Maldives is ready to work with UNDP in the future as well.

Speaking at a special event this evening at Hotel Jen to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of UNDP, Vice President Jihad noted the work by UNDP for the benefit of the Maldivian people for the past 38 years.

Jihad said that UNDP has been providing financial and other aid to the country to absolve poverty, protect the environment, raise the quality of living, build a peaceful community and reduce the impacts of environmental changes.

He said that UNDP is a fine example to those who provide assistance in developing nations in critical conditions.

The Vice President noted that the bond between UNDP and the Maldives grew stronger when the two started working to achieve five of the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). And the Vice President sent his gratitude to the organization for their assistance in reaching the goals.

Vice President Jihad said that the Maldives have learned a number of lessons in achieving the MDGs and would be used in the development of the country.
