Isdhoo in darkness! Bigger generator to arrive next week

Laamu atoll Isdhoo Island Council has said that the island does not have electricity since this morning.

Vice President of the Isdhoo Island Council, Mohamed Luthufee told Sun Media that island lost power at 10 a.m. and the people are severely affected by it.

Luthufee said that FENAKA Corporation uses two generators of 80 kWh and 160 kWh to provide electricity to the island. He said that 160 kWh generator is currently broken and the 80 kWh generator is insufficient to provide the electricity required by the island.

The Vice President of the Council said that electricity is currently being provided to the island’s school alone to make things easier to the students taking the GEC O’ Level Examinations.

Regarding the situation, Managing Director FENAKA Corporation, Ahmed Shareef told Sun Media that the issue with the Isdhoo generator is a broken fuel pump.

He said that initially, they tried to fix the generator but failing the repairs, they are working to bring a generator at the Mukurimagu ward of Laamu Gan.

Shareef said that a company is going to task to bring a 350 kWh generator to Isdhoo tomorrow and the generator would be received a day later and be taken to Isdhoo and installed in about a week.

FENAKA Corporations said that the electricity issue in Isdhoo would be resolved once the generator arrives.
