MDP schedules Council Elections Primary for November 17

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced that the party will be starting its primaries for the upcoming Local Council Elections on November 17.

The announcement was made during a press conference held by the party this Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters, Head of MDP Elections Committee, Mohamed Ibrahim Manik said that the atolls will be divided into three regions and the elections will be held on November 17, 18 and 19.

‘We will be dividing the country into three regions for the Local Council Elections Primary. The voting will be held on November 17, 18 and 19. Voting in the three regions will be held in the three days,” said Manik.

The MDP primaries will be held for 437 seats at island councils, 54 seats at atoll councils, and 20 seats at city councils.

Application was opened on October 3 and will continue until October 20.

Local Council Elections is scheduled for January 14, 2017.
