Lawyer representing RajjeTV has admitted ‘information error’ in the civil lawsuit on defamation by Commissioner of Taxation, Yazeedh Mohamed - regarding the report “Unregistered with MIRA, Yazeedh runs business evading taxation” - published on their website RajjeMV on July 30.
Yazeedh’s lawyer, Mohamed Shahudhy spoke to “Sun” and said that the lawyer representing RajjeTV had admitted that the report contained false information when he provided proof backing the lawsuit during the hearing at Civil Court last week.
Shahudhy said that RajjeTV had admitted to an ‘information error’ during the hearing held this Monday, promising to telecast a report clearing Yazeedh of the allegations during their news hours at 8 pm and 10 pm, September 26.
RajjeTV has announced via their website RajjeMV that the error had been a result of false information provided by their sources.
The report said that Yazeedh had rented out his State-provided apartment from Rehendhi Residence for USD 2,000 per month.
“RajjeMV latter found out that Yazeedh had not rented out his apartment. We therefore bring this to the attention of viewers of RajjeTV and readers of RajjeMV,” said RajjeTV in their statement apologizing for the error.
The case was filed as a civil issue as it took place before defamation was criminalized.
