Mohamed Humaid – a suspect in the murder of Jailam Ahmed Shakir on February 21, 2015 – has handed himself over to the police.
Humaid – originally from G. A. Vilingili – had an Interpol red notice out for his arrest when he handed himself over to the authorities at Maldivian High Commission in Sri Lanka.
Media official from Maldives Police Service informed “Sun” this Monday that Humaid had been brought back to Maldives and arrested last Saturday, September 24.
He has been remanded to 15 days in police custody by Criminal Court.
Jailam was stabbed to death outside his home H. Hundredflower in Male’ – located in front of Dharubaaruge – at around 10 pm, February 21, 2015.
Three individuals have already been charged in the murder. They are:
• Ismail Aneeq, V. Sinamale’ 4 04-01
• Naseeb Saeed, Venus Villa, S. Feydhoo
• Ali irufan, Jamna, Gn. Fuvahmulah
Aneeq has been charged with premeditated murder using a sharp weapon, while Naseeb and Irufan have been charged with being accessories to murder.
All three have denied the charges.
State prosecution alleges that Aneeq, Naseeb and Irufan – along with another individual had arrived in two motorbikes and cornered Jailam while he was outside his home.
Prosecution alleges that the fourth man had used a 12-inch blade to attack Jailam while Aneeq had also laid punches and kicks on him.
Humaid handed himself over to police after more than one year in hiding.
