National Disaster Management Center (NDMC) has made temporary housing arrangements for 14 people left homeless after the fire in G. Esbarige on Wednesday night.
Director of NDMC, Hisaan Hassan spoke to “Sun” on Thursday and said that the center had made temporary housing arrangements as well as arrangements for basic necessities for three families from G. Esbarige in Corel Hotel.
The 14 people from the three families include four school children whose school books and stationary had all burned away. And NDMC is coordinating with Ministry of Education to replace them.
The center is also working on providing the people with clothing as entire wardrobes had gone up in flames.
The fire in G. Esbarige, believed to be a result on an electrical short, had also spread to neighboring G. Aseynaage and G. Memory Villa.
Firefighters were able to control the fire which started at 9:40 after a one-and-a-half-hour battle.
