Rough seas expected over Eid al-Adha holiday

Maldives Meteorological Service forecasts rough seas for a large part of Maldives as people make plans to travel within the country to celebrate upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday.

Met Office forecasts rough seas to the northern and central part of Maldives at the start of the Eid holiday, and moderate seas in the south.

It has issued a white alert to central and southern atolls this Monday, warning heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Scattered rain and a few thunderstorms are expected throughout the country, with surface winds varying south and south-westerly at 3 to 10 miles per hour in the southern atolls, and west and north-westerly at 7 to 17 miles per hour over the rest of the country.

Security services including Maldives Police Service and Maldives National Defense Force have started a special operation to ensure that proper safety measures are taken by sea vessels, as people make plans to travel to islands to enjoy the holiday.
