Ruling political party in Maldives, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has held discussions with India’s ruling political party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to strengthen ties between the two political parties.
Leader of PPM, former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom met with the Secretary-General of BJP, Ram Madhav in the sidelines of the Indian Ocean Conference 2016 in Singapore.
The meeting was held this Sunday, and confirmed by Maumoon via his official Twitter account.

Maumoon said that he met with Madhav and discussed strengthening cooperation between the two political parties.
He also met with Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe last Saturday, during which Wickremesinghe invited Maumoon to an international conference on Islam and democracy, to be held in Sri Lanka later this year.
