Dr. Shaheed alone paid, legal steps to be taken against others

Ministry of Finance and Treasury has said that only the former Foreign Minister Dr. Ahmed Shaheed paid back the money reported in the audit report as money owed to the state among the seven noted officials of the former Government.

Media Official of the Finance Ministry said that while the duration given for the seven people to pay back the money expired today, only Dr. Shaheed made the payment. He said that legal measures would be taken against those who did not pay.

He said that charges would be brought forth through the Attorney General against the individuals that did not pay.

The seven names released by the Finance Ministry were:

• Former President Mohamed Nasheed

• Former Foreign Minister Dr. Ahmed Shaheed

• Former Home Minister, Mohamed Shihab

• Former Foreign minister, Ahmed Naseem

• Former Housing Minister, Mohamed Aslam

• Former Commissioner General of Customs, Mohamed Aswan

• Former State Minister of the Islamic Ministry, Sheikh Hussain Rasheed Ahmed

Finance Ministry said that this was just a start and they would be seeking the money owed to the state from all the individuals named in the Audit Report.
