93 ml of rainwater in 3 days in Male’

National Meteorological Service records show that 93 milliliters of rainwater have fallen in Male’ within the past three days, testament of the bad weather conditions facing the country.

The heaviest rainfall within a 24-hour-period in Maldives was recorded last year with 228 ml.

101 ml of water fell on L. Gan last Tuesday, the heaviest it had rained recently.

Southern atolls have been most hard-hit in the bad weather, with:

• 57.4 ml of rain in Hanimaadhoo

• 93 ml of rain in Male’

• 127 ml of rain in Kadhdhoo

• 152 ml of rain in Kaadedhoo

• 135 ml of rain in L. Gan

All within the past three days.

Heavy rain continues to fall in Maldives, with yellow alert issued in the southern atolls for this Wednesday with torrential rain and thunderstorms with gusts of 45 miles per hour expected.

Authorities have advised caution to sea travelers.

National Meteorological Service forecasts scattered rain with occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms throughout the country for Wednesday.

Surface winds are expected to vary between south-west and westerly at 5 to 15 miles per hour in southern atolls, and west and north-westerly at 13 to 23 miles per hour elsewhere.

Winds are expected to gust up to 40 miles per hour during showers.

Seas are expected to be slight to moderate in southern atolls, and generally rough elsewhere.
