Ministry of Education has today formed a special Committee to look into the organization of the trip to K. Atoll Huraa conducted by Hiriya School, in which Ali Nazim, the Principal of the school and four students drowned to death at sea yesterday. The Committee has been assigned the responsibility of checking whether everything in the organization of the trip had gone in accordance with relevant safety regulations.
Dr. Abdullah Nazeer, Minister of State for Education, said today that the Committee will visit all the relevant locations and places and look into the details of the plans made for the trip. He also said that a report would be prepared based on the findings of the Committee, which the Committee should submit to the Ministry on the coming Thursday.
“We have to see whether the planners of the event had complied fully with the procedures, principles and guidelines established by the Education Ministry, and the internal Committee is set up for that task”, said Nazeer in a press conference held today at Hiriya School.
Nazeer said that no parent participated in the trip and said that the reason for that had not been clear. Hiriya School said that all the 8 teachers who went to Hura with the 32 students to do the works of a Fisheries Science project could swim.
Dr. Abdul Muhsin Mohamed will head the Committee, and Fathimath Azza, Thaha Saleem the Principal of Ghiyaasuddin School, Hanna from School Administration, Adam Shareef from the Centre for Continuing Education, and Dr. Nashiya from the Educational Development Centre will work under him in the Committee.
