Travelers warned of drifting cargo after boat sinks near Bolifushi Resort

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has warned travelers to be cautious of drifting cargo after a boat on its way from Male’ to D. Atoll sank during the late hours of Saturday night.

The 52-foot “Raasthaa 2” sank 4 nautical miles to the south west of K. Bolifushi Resort at around 1:30 am.

Cargo on board the boat at the time of the incident includes timber – hence the warning for caution.

MNDF reported that there was a Maldivian and two expatriates on board the boat at the time of the incident.

There have been no reports of injuries.
