The Juvenile Court of the Maldives has stated that cases of murder and sexual offences filed with the Court has increased during the first five months of this year, in comparison with the same period for the last year.
According to the statistics of the Juvenile Court, two cases of murder were filed with the Court during this year, from January to May. During the same period of 2011, there were no murder cases. While four cases of sexual offences were decided during the last year, with not a single case being filed during the first five months of that year, 3 such cases have been filed so far this year.
Juvenile Court said that 54 cases were filed with the Court last year from January to May, and that 47 of those cases have been decided. While 355 cases of detention for investigation were registered last year, during the first five months, the figure for this year is at 343.
6 girls and 46 boys were involved in cases pending from the year 2010 and filed during the period from January to May 2011.
