President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that the death penalty will be implemented with the challenges from the international community.
Address the nation this evening on the occasion of the Eid al-Fitr, President Yameen said that even with the major pressure from the international community, the government would implement the death sentence would for the rights of all the people.
The President said that he decided to take this step, not because it is easy for a president, but because the Cabinet and he himself believes it is in the interest and protection of all the people in the country.
President Yameen said that many took issues when it was declared that no faith other than Islam would be allowed in the country and so the necessary measures are being taken when moving forward.
The Supreme Court has now passed the death sentence on Hussain Humaam for the murder of the famous religious scholar, Dr. Afrasheem Ali and against Ahmed Murrath for the murder of Author and Lawyer, Ahmed Najeeb.
