After the PPM President, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom ordered his party not hold any committee meetings without his permission, decision has been made to dismiss the MP for the Dhiggaru constituency, Ahmed Faaris Maumoon from PPM along with two other members after a meeting of the Committee for Code of Conduct.
Member of the Committee and State Minister at the Islamic Ministry, Ali Waheed Abdul Rahman said that the decision to dismiss Faaris was made for truly having a problem of conduct in the eyes of the committee.
The other two members of PPM to be dismissed from the party are the Party’s Council Member, Aminath Naadhira and Member of the Malé City Council, Zaidhulla Ameen.
Faaris is being dismissed after he voted against a Three-line whip issued by the party.
While the son of the former President of Maldives and President of PPM, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom is being dismissed from the party, the PPM President has ordered not to hold any Committee meetings without his permission.
Ali Waheed said that they did not get the permission from Maumoon to hold the committee meeting.
MP Faaris voted against the government’s amendment to the Tourism Bill at the vote last Wednesday.
After the PPM Parliamentary Group presented the case at the Committee, Maumoon said that PPM MPs have voted against the party’s whip line in the past as well and taking measures against Faaris alone is not reasonable.
