July 6 announced Eid al-Fitr

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has made the announcement that July 6 (Wednesday), is to be the first day of Eid al-Fitr this year.

Ministry of Islamic Affairs announced that the new moon to determine the first day of the month of Shawwal had not been sighted either in Maldives or any other Islamic country on Monday night. And that Tuesday would be the last day of Ramadan, and Wednesday – the 1st of Shawwal.

Hijree calendar is linked to the moon cycle.

The start of each month is determined through sightings of the new moon, on 29th of each month.
