Civil Court challenges AG, orders authorities to enforce verdict over Haveeru

Civil Court has challenged the word of Attorney General Mohamed Anil, and ordered authorities to enforce its verdict on Haveeru case.

Civil Court issued an order on Monday, in which it said that it was the responsibility of authorities under Article 77 of Courts Act to enforce verdicts issued by lower courts unless and until it is overturned by an upper court.

Civil Court said that comments made by Anil, who is also Acting Minister of Home Affairs - carried in media reports that there was no way any employee of Haveeru can be penalized under current Constitution and laws even if they worked in another media station – was invalid and unlawful.

Civil Court, on Sunday, issued a 2-year ban on Haveeru employees from working in any other media station after it made its decision in the ownership dispute filed at court.
