Adheeb questioned as suspect in Gulf Craft launch fire

Former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Gafoor has been questioned on suspicion of his involvement in the fire on the engine of a Gulf Craft launch “Souvenir 18” traveling to Club Med Kani Finolhu Resort from Hulhulé with 24 passengers.

Sources say that Adheeb was questioned sometime this evening.

The Police questioned the former Vice President if he funded the arson or was involved in any way.

Adheeb has denied any involvement in the case.

Souvenir 18 launch caught fire around 1 p.m. on 24 September 2015.

A number of tourists were injured in the fire include children among the Chinese tourists.

The injured tourists were treated at ADK Hospital at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Two Indian tourists, 16 Chinese tourists, two Japanese tourists, a Sri Lankan tourists were injured in the fire along with the two Bangladeshi nationals and a local working as crew.

The vessel was destroyed beyond use in the fire.
