Minister Zenysha visits 153 children in state custody

Newly appointed Minister of Gender and Family, Zenysha Shaheed Zaki has visited three children's shelters, asking after the welfare of 153 children in state custody during her first week on the job.

Zenysha, who was appointed to the post last week, visited children’s shelters; Kudakudhinge Hiyaa and Amaan Hiyaa located in Vilimale’, and Fiyavathi located in Hulhumale’.

Ministry of Gender and Family said that there were 85 children living in Fiyavathi, 51 children in Kudakudhinge Hiyaa, and 17 children in Amaan Hiyaa.

Zenysha visited Fiyavathi – set up in February, 2016 to keep children in state custody under the age of 9 – on Saturday.

She observed the status of the place, identifying resources lacking, and services that need improvement during her visit.

She was joined by Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Ziyad Bagir in the visit.
