Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has finished reclaiming land for the Industrial Zone to be built towards south west of Male’.
MTCC began reclaiming land for the Industrial Zone last Thursday.
Media consultant for Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure, Ahmed Fazaal Hussain informed “Sun” that MTCC had finished reclaiming the 6.9 hectors of land needed for the Industrial Zone on Saturday night.
The 6.9 hectors of land were reclaimed within three days by working round the clock.
Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had said earlier that equipment and material needed to build the roads for the Industrial Zone had already been brought to the country.
He said that work on building the roads would begin as soon as the land was reclaimed, and that the bulk of the work would be done by July 26.
Workshops and warehouses unsuitable to be located in populated areas are to be shifted to the Industrial Zone.
Muizzu said that a company would be contracted to build four-story warehouses in the area.
The MVR 159 project is funded through state budget.
The biggest work the Industrial Zone will be utilized for is waste management.
Muizzu said that green zones would be built in the reclaimed land, while roads will be built with asphalt.
