Regulation amended allowing offenders to re-apply for clemency after 6 months

Clemency Board regulation has been amended to allow for criminal convicts to re-apply for clemency after 6 months.

As per previous regulation, offenders can only re-apply for clemency two years after they first apply for clemency.

With the amendment, offenders have the opportunity to re-apply for clemency 6 months after they first apply for clemency.

The amendment was brought to Article 11 (j) of the regulation on clemency.

The amendment was brought and published on Government Gazette on June 29. It has been in effect since then.

It is the responsible of Clemency Board to evaluate and deliberate over requests for clemency sent to the President of Maldives.
