Umar to run in 2018 Presidential Election

Former Home Minister, Umar Naseer has decided to run for President in the Presidential Election 2018.

Umar told Sun Media tonight that he has decided to run for President due to the state of the country right now and he would be getting the support of the higher ups of the state.

“I will get the support of the most senior people in the country.” Umar said.

He said that he would work to get elected through PPM and would join the race if a Primary opens up.

As the former Home Minister makes his intentions clear to run in the next Presidential Election, the PPM Parliamentary Group is working to give the PPM ticket to President Abdulla Yameen without a Primary. But the President of PPM, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that it is against the Party regulations.

Follow Umar’s resignation from the Home Ministry, Maumoon tweeted that Umar has integrity and Honor.

At a time where the governing party PMM is in chaos with disagreements between President Abdulla Yameen and the President of PPM and Former President of Maldives, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, the supporters of President Yameen have said that they would submit a bill to Parliament that would keep those of 65 years and above from being the head of a Political Party.

But the Leader of the PPM Parliamentary Group, Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik said that no such decision has been made and those are the thoughts of independent members.

Umar Naseer is also on the advisory committee established by Maumoon to reform and improve the party.
