BroadCom: TV news can be presented without word from opposition
Maldives Broadcasting Commission has decided that news related to opposition can be broadcasted on television without getting a word from the opposition.
The Commission made the decision after investigating a claim filed against Channel 13 by an individual citizen for broadcasting allegations against opposition MDP.
The case was filed regarding a news piece broadcasted on 16 May at the 2 p.m. news based on a tweet sent out by the Deputy Minister at the Home Ministry, Ahmed Siddheeq.
While Deputy Minister Siddheeq describing MDP as a party spreading animosity and conducting imprecatory prayer after the Friday prayers, the case filed at BroadCom says that no word from MDP was sought for the news.
After reviewing, the BroadCom ruled that the news was within the broadcasting regulations of the Commission with the unanimous vote of the members of the Commission.
