The government has changed the regulation on carrying out the death sentence to include the method of lethal injection.
The change was made in an amendment to the regulation on the investigation and carrying out the death sentence in first degree murder cases. The law has now been published in the government gazette.
As the regulation goes through an amendment, the former Home Minister, Umar Naseer previously said that the death sentence would be carried out by hanging and the regulation has been established as such. But the regulation was not yet published in the gazette when Umar resigned.
While Umar said that the death sentence would be carried out within 30 days after the Supreme Court supports the sentence, no timeline for carrying out the sentence was stated in the gazette version of the regulation.
