ADK opens a high dependency unit

The largest private hospital in Male’, ADK Hospital has opened a high dependency unit.

The unit was opened in a ceremony held at ADK on Wednesday morning by Aneesa Ahmed, who served Maldivian heath sector for a long period of time.

A high dependency unit is an area in a hospital where patients can be cared for more extensively than on a normal ward, but not to the point of intensive care.

Patients who have undergone major surgeries or who have undergone single-organ failure are kept there.

Managing Director of ADK Hospital, Ahmed Affaal said that patients need no longer travel abroad for major surgeries, and that such services were now available in Maldives – increasing the importance of high dependency units in Maldivian hospitals.

“Patients who require more care by nurses than those kept at normal wards are kept there. We set this up because we felt the need for care one level below ICU, but above normal wards,” said Affaal.

He said the new unit would be a huge convenience to the patients.

He noted that ADK Hospital had launched many new services this year, and would widen the scope of the services offered by the hospital even further.
