Criminal Court has made the decision to hold the trial of former Bank of Malidives, F. Nilendhoo manager Qasim Abdul Kareem behind closed doors.
Criminal Court media official Ahmed Mohamed Manik informed “Sun” that the court made the decision to bar media and public from the trial upon request of Prosecutor General’s Office.
Qasim is accused of divulging confidential information of a bank’s client to the public.
He has been charged with two offenses – deliberately obtaining information unlawfully, and deliberately revealing information unlawfully.
High Court ordered for Qasim to be released from police custody last week, after his remand was increased 12 times.
Qasim is still under police custody despite the High Court order, saying that he was now being held to investigate another case.
Police have not said what the case is about.
