Dr. Ali Naseer secures Committee approval as permanent representative to UN

People’s Majlis Committee on National Security has given approval to foreign secretary Dr. Ali Naseer as permanent representative of Maldives at United Nations, Maldivian ambassador to US and non-residential Maldivian ambassador to Canada.

Dr. Ali Naseer was given approval during the Committee meeting held last week.

Committee also gave approval to Ahmed Shiyaan (G. Samanthaa, Male’) as non-residential

Maldivian ambassador to Netherlands and Luxemburg.

The names of Dr. Ali Naseer and Ahmed Shiyaan were sent for review on June 7.

The report sent by Committee to Majlis reads that both the individuals were capable enough to be appointed to the posts without further interview.

Meanwhile, United Opposition has accused Dr. Ali Naseer and his wife, Governor of Maldives Monetary Authority Dr. Azeema Adam of involvement in Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation embezzlement scandal.

They have said that he was appointed a post abroad to help him evade justice.

Dr. Ali Naseer has denied the allegation, saying that individuals were not appointed to international missions to help them flee.
