Hyocimax tablets, injection for stomachache banned from Maldives

Hyoscine butylbromide tablets and injection by Hyocimax, used to relieve cramps in the stomach, intestines or bladder, have been banned permanently from Maldives.

A temporary ban was imposed on the drug in February after issues with the injection came to light.

Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has done their study on the drug and announced a permanent ban on the drug.

Deputy Director-General of MFDA, Aishath Mohamed spoke to “Sun” on Monday, and said that the result of their study showed that the drug manufacturing process did not meet the required standards.

“There are chances of issues arising with the tablets as well, if the brand’s injections are manufactured in violation of required standards, isn’t it? We therefore imposed a permanent ban on the drug today,” said Aishath.
