Individuals under influence in streets to be arrested, sent to Maafushi for rehab

Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer has said that he has ordered the police to arrest individuals under the influence of narcotics from the streets, and send them to K. Maafushi for rehabilitation.

In an exclusive interview on Sunday, Umar said that he had ordered the police to do whatever was necessary within the confines of law to establish peace and security within the society.

“Police have been ordered to arrest individuals on the street under the influence. They will start arresting very soon,” said Umar.

He said a Drug Offender Remand Center had been established in Maafushi.

Another rehabilitation program was launched recently in which minors operating in criminal gangs are being sent to Dh. Vaani.

21 children have been sent to Vaani to participate in the diversion program being conducted by 27 trainers.

Umar said that the rehabilitation program for child criminals would be carried out in the future as well.

“In the future, we will be take children on the streets in groups with long hair, smoking cigarettes. They will be taken and put into the program,” he said.

Umar said that the issues facing the society cannot be solved in one or two days. He said that strict measures needed to be put in place to find a solution.

Umar said that he would do everything necessary to establish peace in the society “no matter what anyone says, no matter how much people knock on the doors of politicians, and no matter how much it angers the parents.”

“There will be a tangible difference once those wandering the streets under the influence are taken, child criminals are taken, and gang leaders are tagged,” said Umar.
