Fire in house in Hithadhoo causes major damage

A fire incident took place in the early hours of this Wednesday in the house – Ahivahmaage - in S. Hithadhoo, resulting in major damage.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said that the fire was reported to them at 4:15 am.

Possessions in the bedroom and living room of the house were damaged beyond repair.

The fire was put out with the effort of MNDF Fire and Rescue Service team.

Addu City Mayor, Abdulla Sodiq (Soabe) spoke to “Sun” and said that the fire seemed to have been a result of an electric short.

“It was very rainy in Hithadhoo. MNDF officials informed us that they think the fire may have been a result of an electrical short. There was a mattress kept near the switches in the room that the fire originated from. It looks most likely that the mattress caught fire during the thunderstorm,” said Soabe.

Soabe said that no one had been in the bedroom when it caught fire. And that the television in the living room was consumed by the fire, and the glass in the doors had shattered.

He said that electric wiring in the house had gone haywire in the incident.

The Mayor had gone to Ahivahmaage as soon as the Council heard about the fire and asked after the welfare of the people living there.
