Haveeru Media Group has responded to the court’s request for clarification regarding how Haveeru News Agency and Online Edition was transferred under ownership of HMG, saying that it was done by Dr. Mohamed Zahir Hussein (H. Neel Villa, Male’) in accordance with law.
Court has requested for the clarification on two occasions.
HMG responded to the request with a letter sent to court.
HMG last week retracted their decision to get involved in the court case, saying that trial was lengthening leading to them being unable to use their bank accounts and nearing bankruptcy as they are unable to do any business.
The judge said during the hearing on Tuesday not to make such inflammatory remarks towards the court.
He said that court had granted the request by HMG’s attorney to go on leave, and that court had not made any deliberate attempts to drag out the trial.
The judge said that HMG cannot uninvolved themselves from the court case even if they wished to do so.
He also granted 2 days after HMG requested time to hire an attorney.
ENY - the audit firm assigned to carry out an audit on Haveeru News Agency was ordered by court to submit audit reports of the company for the past three years.
High Court ruled in August, 2015 that Chairman Dr. Mohamed Zahir Hussein was not the sole owner of Haveeru News Agency, and that Abdulla Farooq Hassan (G. Kokkiri, Male’) and
Ibrahim Rasheed (H. Meerubahuruge Aage, Male’) were also shareholders of the company.
Supreme Court has rejected suit filed by Zahir to appeal the sentence.
