Man stabbed in gang violence

A 21-year-old man has been stabbed in a gang fight in Malé City. He is currently being treated at ADK Hospital.

Managing Director of ADK Hospital, Ahmed Affaal said that the young man being treated at ADK following the gang violence is in serious condition but it’s not life threatening.

Information Officer of the Police, Ismail Ali said that a man was stabbed near Majid al-Noor in the gang violence tonight around 10 p.m.

Police have closed down the area and are still active at the scene of the crime.

Gang violence has been on the rise in the country recently. Just a week ago, two 14-year-old boys were killed on two separate attacks on the same day.

Statistics from the Police show a 22 percent increase in gang violence this month. A total of 87 cases have been reported last May compared to the 71 cases reported in the May of 2015.

The Police are conducting a special operation following the recent spike in gang violence.
