Gaafu Alifu Dhaandhoo Island Council has said that the island has not had electricity since this
morning.
Talking to Sun Media, the President of the G.A. Dhaandhoo Island Council, Ismail Latheef said that the power was cut off this morning around 10:30 a.m. to cool down the two generators used to power the island by FENAKA Corporation and one of the generators was broken when it was time to resume power.
A 200kilowatt generator and a 120 kilowatt generator was being used to power the island which has a population of over 2000 people.
The Council said that although two generators were being used to power the island, electricity has been cutting off once a week to cool the generators for the past three months.
President of the Dhaandhoo Council said that the complaint has been made at the Regional Branch of FENAKA Corp. and the island’s electricity has not been assured.
He said that the Atoll Futsal Tournament to be held tonight on the island has also been delayed due the blackout.
The Council said that it was been requesting to being a new generator to the island for the past four months and there has been no indication towards it.
There has been no word from FENAK Corp. on the matter so far.
