Order to detain Hameed upheld by High Court

The order by Criminal Court to hold former Head of Police Intelligence Department Chief Superintendent of Police Mohamed Hameed in detention has been upheld by High Court.

At the hearing of the case appealed to High Court today, High Court stated that there were no grounds that the Criminal Court order was in violation of the law.

Hameed was accused and arrested for participating in activities destructive to peace and order in the country, following which Criminal Court extended his detention period for five days stating that Hameed may be a threat to social security.

Police have said that Hameed was arrested for having revealed national security information relating to the period he was Head of Police Intelligence Department, and for having relayed baseless information to protect the interest of a certain group of people.

According to the Police, his actions were in violation of the Police Act.
