Local fishermen have said that they predict prices of fish – which are low at the moment - to go up within a week’s time.
Fish prices have been comparatively low this Ramadan with kanneli, raagondi, kalhubilamas available, and latti not seen at all in the market.
Kalhubilamas weighing 3 kilos is available for MVR 50 per kilo, while a one-foot kanneli is available for MVR 75 per kilo.
A portion of cut kanneli is available for MVR 90, a quarter of a one-foot kalhubilamas is sold somewhere between MVR 30 – 40, mushimas is available for MVR 10, and a cup of rehi is available for MVR 15.

Availability of reef fish in the market is low – with raihmas, giulhu, ginimas, handhi and octopus not available at all.
Fishermen who were interviewed from the market said that fishing was “average” at the moment, but that it has gone down when compared to last week.
They predicted fishing to go further down within the coming week.
The fishermen said that fishing doing down would mean that prices of fish will go up.
Prices in the first week of Ramadan is lower when compared to the same period last year.
Ramadan in 2015 saw kanneli being sold for MVR 200 per kilo.
