5-day house arrest for father of Himandhoo toddler

The father of the toddler in A. A. Himandhoo who was handed over to custody of his mother by police under court order has been has been given 5-day house arrest.

A police media official who spoke to “Sun” said that the man was arrested on Wednesday for obstruction of justice, when the police went to Himandhoo and attempted to transport the boy to his mother in Male’.

Court granted police a 5-day remand period for the man, during which time he will be kept under house arrest.

Police, along with social workers from Ministry of Gender went to Himandhoo and transported the toddler – who had been living with his father in the island - to his mother in Male’ to enforce an order issued by Family Court.

The police media official said that other individuals from Himandhoo had also obstructed justice, and that they would all be investigated.

Videos of the incident with the toddler crying as people from Himandhoo and police clash has gone viral on social media.
