Police: CP did not request court order to arrest President Yameen

Maldives Police Service has denied the allegations that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Areef requested a court order from the Criminal Court for the arrest of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

While the former Prosecutor General (PG), Muhuthaz Muhusin has said in court that Commissioner Areef request a court order for the President’s arrest, the Head of the Crime Investigation Command, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abdulla Navaz said that at no point did Commissioner Areef tried to arrest President Yameen.

Former PG, currently on trial, said that Commissioner Areef made the request when Judge Abdulla Mohamed was at the Criminal Court.

He said that Commissioner Areef later retracted the case.

Muhuthaz said that Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Saudi is aware of it.
