The sentencing hearing in the case against the former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb charged with terrorism for possession of two pistols have been set for tonight.
The hearing has been scheduled to 8 p.m. tonight.
Media Official of the Criminal Court, Ahmed Mohamed Manik told Sun Media that it would be a closed hearing.
Criminal Court did not say what the threat to national security would be by allowing the media and the pubic into the hearing.
At the latest hearing in the case yesterday morning, both the prosecution and the defense presented their closing statements. But since the hearing was closed for national security, the events that unfolded at the hearing are unclear.
Three people gave closed testimonies said that the former Vice President had two pistols and explosives at his apartment.
All three of them said that Adheeb had the pistols and explosives at his apartment at Galolhu Humasheege on the night of 30 April 2015 around 1:30 a.m.
Two of the closed witnesses said that Adheeb show two pistols he had in a black bag and the bag contained something covered with insulation tape.
The witnesses said that they asked the former Vice President what it was when they saw a “phone-like device” and Adheeb said that it was an explosive.
The third witness said that while he saw two pistols and explosives at his apartment, he also saw a pistol and explosives at Adheeb’s table at his apartment at Rehendhi Flat.
The witness said that he secretly took pictures of the items at Rehendhi Flat on his phone and they were on his phone when he handed it over to the Police.
The first witness said that he knew it was a real pistol that he saw in Adheeb’s possession when he saw it.
Two of the witnesses said that they did not report it to the Police at the time because Adheeb was a high official of the state and was unaware that it was illegal for such a high ranking state official to possess it.
Indicating to the May-Day protest, two of the witnesses said that Adheeb requested to let him know if anything is going to go bad at the rally and keep him updated and asked to make sure nothing go bad at the protest.
