Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) officers have joined police in their work to maintain peace in the capital, Male’, in a weekend filled with violence, including murders of two 14-year-old boys in stabbings.
Ahmed Irusham Hilmy (K. Kaashidhoo) and Faathir Mohamed Ali (M. Sharumaage) – both 14-year-old boys succumbed to their injuries and died after being stabbed on Friday.
Another young man – a 24-year-old – was stabbed again on Saturday and is being treated at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
Police have not yet announced if they have made any arrests in direct connection to the stabbings, but said that they arrested 19 individuals in a special operation they ran on Friday night after the stabbings.
Police are continuing their special operation on Saturday as well, and MNDF Media Official has confirmed that military officers have also joined the police in the operation.
Police dogs (K9s) are also being used in the operation.
