Raajje TV ordered to apologize for Aseylaa documentary

Raajje TV has been ordered to apologize for broadcasting the documentary that says President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom performed sorcery with the help of a Sri Lankan priest named Aseylaa Virkamasingha.

The report sent to Raajje TV after reviewing the case by the Maldives Broadcasting Commission says that the Raajje TV documentary titled “Sihuruverikan” claims that President Yameen came to power with sorcery and it goes against the fundamentals of the Islamic faith.

The report said that the whole content of the documentary is in violation of the broadcasting code of practice.

After Raajje TV presented the news implying that President Yameen came to power with sorcery and on 21 April, the Broadcasting Commission issued a warning and ordered the station to apologize without condition.

The latest case say that without proof that the documentary was broadcasted after the warning, there was no need issued a second warning.

Broadcasting Commission ordered to publicize the apology statement next Thursday on the station between 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
