Housing Ministry has denied the allegations by MDP saying that the Ministry did not allocated a venue to hold their event “Bodu Jalsaa” this Thursaday night.
Minister of Housing and Infrastructre, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu told Sun Media today that MDP first requested Dharubaaruge but the venue was booked for the date requested. And the second venue requested, Artificial Beach, is no longer given to hold political events.
Few days ago, the Housing Ministry made new regulations on giving open lands in Malé City for events and under those regulations, Artificial Beach would no longer be given to hold political events. The regulations were published on the government gazette.
Deputy Chairperson of MDP, Ali Niyaz told Sun Media that the party requested Dharubaaruge for the event in writing on 11 May. But the government responded that the venue cannot be given since it was booked for government purpose and the reply came via word of mouth yesterday.
