Opposition leaders to forge common agenda to work together

Political oppositions of the Maldives have decided to meet in London to discuss the political state of the Maldives and make important decisions.

MDP issued a press statement today saying that prominent political figures will be meeting in London on 1 June to forge a common agenda to restore democracy in the Maldives.

Former President Mohamed Nasheed, Former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel, representatives of the jailed former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, and representatives for the jailed former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim will be attending the meeting according to MDP.

Representatives of MDP and Adhaalath Party along with the MP for the South Galolhu constituency, Ahmed Mahloof is also set to take part in the meeting. MP Mahloof and Adam Nazim, the brother of Colonel Nazim and for MD of STO, has left for London yesterday along with the Deputy Leader of Adhaalath Party, Ali Zahir.

“Bringing together hitherto political rivals, the meeting will explore ways of legally preventing the Maldives’ continued slide into dictatorship and authoritarianism under President Abdulla Yameen.” The MDP statement said.

The meeting is set to take place at Royal Overseas League in Green Park at 10 a.m. and would be followed by the signing of a resolution and a press conference.
