Poor in atolls asked to register for zakat

The poor living in the atolls have been asked to register for zakat al-fitr and zakat al-mal by Ministry of Islamic Affairs.

Ministry of Islamic Affairs said on Saturday that the first round of issuance and acceptance of zakat registration forms in the atolls has started.

Registration services will be available on:

• Th. Atoll – from May 28-30

• G. Dh. Atoll – from May 28-30

• L. Atoll – from May 28-30

• A. Dh. Atoll – from May 28-30

• Lh. Atoll – from May 28-30

An official from Ministry of Islamic Affairs who spoke to “Sun” said that the registration for the rest of the atolls would be announced during early June. And that the second round would also include the poor in Male’.

Forms will be available from Ministry of Islamic Affairs as well as island councils. Both individuals and families are required to fill the same form.
