Indian cabinet has approved the Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in tourism - signed between India and Maldives during Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen’s state visit to the country last April.
The MoU was approved during the cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.
Indian government cabinet released a statement after the meeting in which it revealed the contents of the MoU.
The MoU consists mainly of increased cooperation between the two countries in tourism, exchange of tourism related data, and increasing cooperation between stakeholders of tourism industry in the two countries.
It also consists of human resource exchange programs related to tourism, visits between India and Maldives by tour operators of both countries, increasing investment, participation of tourism industry stakeholders in trade fairs held in both countries, and visits between India and Maldives by media and other stakeholders of both countries.
India is one of the countries that brings in a large number of tourists to Maldives, each year.
