Elderly dengue patient dies, fatalities from dengue rises to 3

A 61-year-old woman receiving treatment from Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) died last Sunday.

IGMH media official Zeenath Ali Habeeb confirmed the death on Monday. But the hospital is yet to release the identity of the woman.

This is the third fatality from dengue fever in the country this year – coming in the space of a month.

Zeenath said that the elderly woman was brought to IGMH from a hospital in the atolls. And that she had been in critical condition when brought to IGMH.

The woman passed away while receiving treatment at Intensive Care Unit.

The other two fatalities from dengue fever are a seven-month-old baby boy and a 35-year-old woman.

Health Ministry has said that they are receiving worrying number of reports of dengue fever in the country, and have advised public to destroy mosquito breeding grounds.
