President Nasheed requests medical extension again

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has requested at the Maldives Correctional Service for another extension on his medical visit in UK.

Information Officer of the Correctional Service, Ahmed Luguman told Sun Media today that a letter was sent from the former President’s Office requesting his medical visit to be extended to 23 August.

Luguman said that the Ex-President’s case has been presented to the Medical Board to make a decision on his medical visit.

While the medical leave of President Nasheed has been extended by 30 days on 17 April,

Corrections have previously ordered the former President to return to the country on 6 April. The order was sent because the relevant documents were not submitted. President Nasheed initially left to the UK from Colombo on 21 January 2016.

Correctional Service then said that the extension was granted when all the relevant documents were submitted.

But the 30-day extension was then revoked on 18 April and the Correctional Service said that it was because while Ex-President had said that he was going in for a surgery but his legal team refuted it.

Since then the Home Minister Umar Naseer has made a request to review the retraction of the extension of 30 days. And the Medical Board of the Maldives Correctional Service reviewed the decision and passed to grant the 30-day extension on 4 May.
