Criminal Court has provided state prosecution with a second chance to present the two state witnesses who claimed to have seen former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Gafoor with a pistol on May 1, 2015.
The previous hearing on the terror trial against the President’s former right-hand-man also ended with the state being able to present only one witness.
Judge Muhuthaaz Fahmy – who is presiding over the case – said that testimony of the two witnesses needed to be heard at court on the same day as both claimed to have seen the same scene.
State was able to present only one of the witnesses for Sunday’s hearing as well, due to difficulties faced in finding out the whereabouts of the second witness.
The state prosecutor requested for testimony of the one witness to be taken, which was rejected by Judge Muhuthaaz who said that testimony of both the witness needed to be taken on the same day.
He announced that testimony of state witnesses had been re-scheduled again for May 31.
As soon as the judge made the announcement, defense attorney for Adeeb – Moosa Siraj noted that court had now provided state with the second chance to present their witnesses.
And said that he did not believe court had to provide any more chances for state to present their witnesses without any valid reason.
Siraj asked to clarify whether state had been given the last chance to present their witnesses to court, or the number of additional chances that will be provided to state if they failed to present both their witnesses to court on May 31.
Judge Muhuthaaz announced the end of Sunday’s hearing without an answer to his question.
The two state witnesses gave their statement to police claiming to have seen Adeeb handling a pistol in his apartment on May 1, 2015.
The terror charge is only one of the many charges pending against Adeeb.
